A Shameless Plug For My Spotify Playlist

If you haven’t already, peep my playlist on Spotify called #Girls. It’s linked right under the name of the blog, and its #fire. They’re all songs by female artists (with the exception of two songs, you’ll see later), that make me want to stand on a rooftop and sing and dance. I add to it all the time, so if you feel like jamming with me toss it a follow!

I picked just a few of my favorites to share with you, they aren’t the typical girl power anthems, but they’re very much worth the listen!

  • Legit Anything by Lizzo

Good As Hell, Scuse Me, and Water Me are my top three faves. Lizzo is a plus size, black, rapper from the US and not only are her songs BANGERS, but they’re all girl power anthems. I first discovered Good As Hell in an ad for Ashley Graham’s all-inclusive swimsuit line, Swimsuits For All, and a Spotify research binge ensued. I fell in love with her lyrics, catchy beats, and overall feel-good attitude. The song came from Lizzo standing in the studio and her producer asked how she was feeling, and her response? “Good as Hell!”

I don’t quite remember how I discovered Betty Who, but I have not turned back since. Somebody Loves You is a reminder that even when you think everything has hit the fan and you’re all alone, somebody does love and care for you. It has an 80s flair that will make you want to stand up and dance and sing along within seconds. Her newest album is amazing on all sorts of levels and her Instagram is POPPIN, 10/10 great follow

Lorde is EVERYTHING and her new album is THE WORLD. Green Light isn’t necessarily a “girl power” song by the normal standards, but it’s an anthem, to say the least, and Lorde’s vocals are hard to ignore in this absolute jam. The song is about Lorde’s first heartbreak, which she says isn’t something she’s used to writing about. 10/10 recommend watching the video because it’s so beautifully shot, and the emotion in Lorde’s performance is beyond amazing.

The OG Finesse was a jam in its own right, and then you add in Cardi B, a 90’s themed music video, and Bruno’s natural afro and my heart just explodes. Cardi’s opening verse is so catchy and fun, all I want to do when I hear it is dance in the club [or frat basement] with my girls. I am extremely pro “Hoe Culture,” the idea that girls can love sex just as much as boys, and shouldn’t be ashamed of it, and Cardi B is the epitome of today’s Hoe Culture and I love her. As Cardi once so beautifully said, “It’s cold outside but I’m still looking like a thotty, because a hoe never gets cold.” (Frostbite does not discriminate against sexual preferences or lack thereof,  can we please all make moves to wear jackets to bars?! If we all do it, it won’t be so weird!!)

If you don’t know me personally, then all you need to know is that this is my song and that whenever it comes on I will be screaming every single word at the top of my lungs. As mentioned before, I am pro hoe, and this song is just that. I’m not even going to say anything else, just listen to the song, fall in love, and request it next time you’re out.

Okay, so this one isn’t by a girl, nor does it even have a girl featured on it (does it count if there’s a drag queen featured???). Todrick Hall is all sorts of awesome, he works very closely with RuPaul, the queeniest drag queen of them all, put out an album themed around the Wizard of Oz, and does fire covers on Youtube. I know he’s not a girl, but this is one of my favorite songs, and it is an absolute jam and I couldn’t not have it on this playlist. I went with the loophole that Todrick and Ru are both in drag for most of the video to add it to this list.

  • LITTLE MIX EVERYTHING

Okay, if you know me, you know how much I am in love with Little Mix. If you don’t know Little Mix please get your ass on a computer and go stalk them because you will fall in love. Wings is just a feel-good jam about being yourself and flying high, Shout Out To My Ex is a f*ck you to a cheating ex-boyfriend (@Zayn Malik), Power is a girl anthem quite literally saying that just because men have d*cks doesn’t mean they can control us, and legit so many more jams. Just go to Spotify, or Apple Music, or whatever you have and just listen. Honestly, all of their songs are fire, stop reading this and go listen!!!! Also, follow them all on Instagram while you’re at it, you 100% will not regret it!
